Coconut Lagoon, Kumarakom

Set amid the swaying coconut palms with the Vemanad lake lapping the bank of its sprawling garden is this veritable paradise in Gods own country- Coconut Lagoon of the Casino Group. Built in the traditional style of paddy fields, with strips of land alternated with water bodies, the resort is a quintessence of a village in Kerala. The resort with tiled roofs for their rooms are built in the style of a typical 'therawad' or traditional Keralite family homes.

Things to do

This virtual island of tranquility,in the backwaters, allows you to shed your worries and be yourself.

With time on your side you can just lie on one of the hammocks, tied between two coconut trees. The garden overlooks the lake. As you lie basking in the sun, you can see the the fishermen silently gliding past in their canoes. Occasionally a faint chugging sound of a motor boat wafts across the waters. The hum of a Bumble bee gently fades away as it goes in search of better pastures. All is quiet and peaceful in this sliver of paradise.
You can try your hand at angling in any of the waterways in the resort. But let me warn those of you who have not indulged in this activity- this sport requires patience!
You can also hire a dugout canoe and go paddling in the narrow waterways outside the resort- see how the people live their lives in the backwaters.
