Perhaps no people in India value the importance of water more than the people of Rajasthan. In mid 19th centuary, Thakur Chhatra Singh of Nimaj, a nobleman of the desert kingdom of Marwar, Jodhpur decided to dam the monsoonal river passing through his estate. He took upon himself to undertake this project, gigantic at that time, to mitigate the hardships of his people.
The project was completed in 1890, turning the wind swept almost barren land into an oasis of life.
It is now a luxury outdoor tented camp resort. The landscape flat as a pancake stretches for miles uninterrupted by any modern structure. The rustic ambiance provides a wonderful getaway.
