Some facts about Kashmir:
The Mughal road in Kashmir traces the path the 16th century Mughal caravans used to take while travelling from Lahore in Pakistan to the valley of Kashmir.
All along its 84 km stretch -from Shopian in South Kashmir to Bafliaz- remnants of the past are visible along its route.
There are Sarais (inns) built all along the route. The first is the Sukh Serai, followd by Aliabad. The water flowing through is reputed to have curative powers. Here also is the Heerpora Wild Life Sanctuary - home to spotted Forkbill, the endangered Markhor, the largest wild goat in the world.
As the road winds up, at an elevation of 11500 ft you come to the Sufi Shrine-Pir Ki Gali. The road ends at Bafliaz. Further on at Surankote, is the Noori Chamb waterfall, streams and valleys. At Poonch a small provincial town, is a 18th centuary fort.
